It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are all that remain for a side that has won it all.

The fact it required up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, taking back their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the pitchers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It is hard for their hitters to hold a record if not provided the chance.

Finally, the outcome of Australia giving up 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy getting a platform to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Originally famous as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her debut and seven world titles have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the winning streak.

That loss "motivated us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

If this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Certain people claim the case for final game tension. Others can counter with the test that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this ton was considerably tougher to predict.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this innings followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in the nets, it's been a challenging time because it seemed my form was missing at all," commented Healy.

"But once you enter the playing area, your competitive nature kick in and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her major advantage - and an invaluable trait in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's motivation.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and from there Healy was underway.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and just have a bit of fun that way, somewhat inspired me," commented Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 deliveries - her swiftest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

Once she was removed the team needed 66 more at run per delivery - an unconquered height now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the confidence to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we are confident we can achieve it."

Those words will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this championship should hear.

During the last week a feeling they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this success following victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing with the discomfort.

Yet even as she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this tournament is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a world championship as leader.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
