An extensive 60-day voyage around the Australian Coast was terminated following the fatal incident of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a isolated tropical isle.

Suzanne Rees had been walking on the tropical location with other travelers from the vessel, but separated from the group for a rest. The ship left without her and came back after some time after the crew discovered the lady was missing.

An extensive hunt located her person the following day.

Officials are examining the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator stated that guests and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the journey had been called off due to the "sad loss and prior technical problems".

Via official communication, he further stated that guests would be given a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to organize the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Officials also issued an updated statement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Captain" banning any new passengers from entering the ship.

The liner originally sailed from Cairns on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the journey at the time of the elderly woman's demise. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Travelers on board - who usually pay substantial amounts of currency to take part in the expedition - were ferried there for a shore visit with the option of walking or snorkelling.

Relatives Statement

The offspring of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "stunned and distressed that the vessel left the location after an planned tour without my mum".

In her statement, she portrayed her mother as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a member of a bushwalking club.

"Based on limited details we have been provided, it seems that there was a lapse of attention and ordinary reasoning," she mentioned.

She added that she hoped the investigation would be able to identify what "the organization should have done that might have saved Mother's existence".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a very hot period, and she became unwell on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"She was asked her to return, without accompaniment. Then the boat sailed away, reportedly without doing a headcount.

"During some point in that sequence, or not long after, mum passed away, without company."

Operator Response

Through an announcement, the CEO affirmed that the company was "working closely with investigators to aid their inquiry".

He said that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had provided its total backing to the loved ones.
