Iran Declares It Could Resume American Atomic Discussions if Treated with 'Dignity' and 'Respect'
Iran is ready to resume nuclear discussions with the United States provided that it is approached with "respect" and "respect", Iran's foreign minister has declared.
Abbas Araghchi declared solely negotiations was effective, and shared recent overtures had been made by go-betweens to reopen negotiations with the US government. He said Iran had zero unreported enrichment locations, and Iran could not yet authorize the International Atomic Energy Agency to visit struck enrichment centers for security reasons.
Walking a Complex Path
Araghchi is treading a difficult course since Iran aims to avoid appear to be acting from a position of vulnerability, and he insisted repeatedly that Iran had arisen stronger defensively and emotionally from the Israeli-US attack on its nuclear sites in June.
He was speaking at a security conference in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "an inalienable right to enrich uranium on home soil that it will always maintain" – the main reason of the deadlock in the earlier negotiations.
Prior Talks Unexpectedly Terminated
The earlier sessions of discussions between the US and Iran were concluded unexpectedly and acrimonious conclusion on 12 June when Israel, with Washington's assistance, struck Iranian nuclear sites in a two-week conflict that concluded with the American leader claiming the sites had been destroyed. Following this, EU nations used their privilege to reinstate UN-wide sanctions, but Iran asserts they have not had a major impact.
Magic Solution Proposed
Iran's diplomats said they felt they had reached a "magic solution" to the enrichment issue in earlier negotiations, when it was settled an Iran-based consortium with American involvement could refine atomic fuel. Both sides would have been able to declare success since home-based processing would have persisted and the US could be confident that Iran's atomic project was entirely non-military.
It had not been settled in the discussions that US nuclear scientists could operate inside Iran, but that was a reasonable assumption of the consortium proposal. Officials asserted three times they had achieved a deal with Washington's diplomat Steve Witkoff only for the agreement to fall apart due to "opponents in the US".
Existing Status
Tehran representatives declared the partnership proposal was now off the table, but it seems very probable the suggestion could be resurrected in various formats if discussions restart.
Trump recently stated he had been obtaining communications that Iran wanted to resume discussions, but confidentially Iranian officials claim they are not yet getting consistent overtures from America either explicitly or from important Middle Eastern intermediaries, such as the Qatari government, Egypt, the Omani authorities and the Saudi kingdom. The Iran's state department has been accused of inactivity in the face of Washington's unmediated tactics, but Iran says negotiations is not part of a show.
Political Position
In his speech to the gathering, intended to depict the US as a controlling nation that misuses the concept of international law, Araghchi declared the fortnight-long engagement demonstrated the conflict could not be resolved by combat operations. He asserted the attacks began with a US demand for an unconditional Iranian surrender and culminated with an complete request for a truce.
Iran is convinced the first strikes by Israel were executed with full US knowledge and collaboration, making faith difficult to restore.
Dialogue Stays the Ultimate Resolution
Araghchi declared: "It was not Iran that had abandoned dialogue; it was the United States and the western countries that had always sought to dictate their demands during the negotiations. Diplomacy can still be active and remains the primary resolution to address disputes, but its requirements, guidelines and fundamentals must be adhered to."
"Provided that they address to the nation of Iran with the language of dignity and respect, they will get a reply in the equivalent language."
Recovery and Recovery
In what is characterized by Iranian officials as the conflict of recovery and reconstruction, the foreign minister said he was confident Iran's military capacities "are considerably enhanced than before 13 or 14 June of this year. Our entire military infrastructure have been restored. We gained multiple understandings from this conflict; we have come to know our personal limitations and the vulnerabilities of the opponent."
He stated: "We effectively endured this war. Our enrichment knowledge, which they intended to destroy, continues to exist. The facilities and equipment, if eliminated, will be rebuilt; what is crucial is the resolve of the Iranian people and then the social solidarity that they targeted, but did not succeed to destroy. The citizens of Tehran have become more resilient, more united, and more supportive of the government and the country in the aftermath of this attack."
